Furniture that lives outdoors or in a busy hospitality space works hard. It faces sun, rain and salt near the coast, along with constant handling, moving and cleaning. Ordinary materials fade, rust, loosen at the joints or simply look tired within a season or two.
At the same time, furniture is part of the look of a space, so it cannot only be durable. It has to sit right with the design, hold a clean finish and keep its appearance through daily use.
So furniture in this sector has two jobs at once: to last in its setting, and to look good while doing it. The buyer needs a maker who can deliver both.
What furniture and design buyers need
Designers, hospitality operators and homeowners tend to be looking for the same things:
- durability outdoors and under daily commercial use;
- a finish that suits the design and keeps its appearance;
- bespoke pieces made to a drawing or a concept;
- clean, well-finished joints on visible work;
- pieces that match across a set;
- corrosion resistance for poolside, garden and coastal settings.
The underlying need is furniture that still looks and works well after seasons of real use, not just on the day it is delivered.
How TH Steel supports the requirement
TH Steel, established 1977 and based in Penang, makes stainless steel outdoor furniture and bespoke metal pieces, with the stainless steel fabrication handled in-house from frame to finished piece:
- Tube bending for frames, legs and curved forms without flattening or distortion.
- Precision welding using TIG (GTAW), with joints dressed and blended on visible work.
- CNC laser cutting for decorative tops, perforated panels and cut detail.
- Plate bending and forming for seats, panels and shaped sections.
- Finishing and polishing to a brushed, mirror or bead-blasted surface.
- Project assembly, including frames designed to take timber, glass or stone tops.
Because the frame, the welds and the finish are all handled together, a piece can be made to look right and stand up to its setting, rather than assembled from parts made by different hands.
Typical pieces we fabricate
Common furniture and design work includes:
- tables, chairs, benches and stools;
- bar and counter furniture;
- loungers and poolside furniture;
- planters and garden pieces;
- shelving, consoles and display furniture;
- frames designed to take timber, glass or stone tops;
- hospitality furniture for hotels, restaurants and cafes;
- bespoke feature pieces to a designer's drawings.
Materials, grades and finishes
Grade selection follows where the piece will live:
- 304, the general-purpose grade, suits indoor and sheltered garden furniture.
- 316 / 316L, molybdenum-bearing, is the safer choice for poolside, coastal and seafront pieces, where chlorides and salt air would mark a lesser grade.
On furniture the finish is part of the design. A brushed No. 4 finish is hard-wearing and hides everyday marks, a mirror finish gives a brighter, reflective look, and bead-blasted and other finishes are available too. Where metal frames pair with timber, glass or stone tops, the frame can be made to suit the top you specify.
Why an integrated maker keeps furniture consistent
For furniture, the finish and the fit are the product. When bending, welding, cutting and finishing all happen under one roof, joints can be dressed cleanly, the finish kept consistent across a piece, and matching pieces in a set made to look the same, with fewer handoffs where quality could vary.
For designers and hospitality operators, that means one maker from drawing through to finished, ready-to-place furniture, and consistency where several of the same piece are needed.
