Home metalwork that has to secure, suit and last
For a home, metalwork such as gates, grilles, railings and fencing has to do several things at once. It has to keep the place secure, suit the look of the house, and survive year after year of heat, heavy rain and humidity, with salt air on top of that near the coast.
Get the material or finish wrong and the result rusts, streaks the walls with run-off, or needs constant repainting. Gates and grilles also have to fit their openings accurately and operate smoothly, so the work has to be measured and made properly, not approximately.
The buyer here wants metalwork that looks right, works reliably and holds up in the local climate without becoming a chore to maintain.
What homeowners and builders need
Homeowners and builders tend to be looking for the same things:
- security and safety, made to suit the property;
- a style that fits the house, from clean and modern to traditional;
- durability in the Malaysian climate, and near the coast;
- an accurate fit to openings, and gates that operate smoothly;
- low maintenance, with little or no repainting;
- good value over the life of the metalwork.
The underlying need is metalwork that does its job and still looks right several years on, without a lot of upkeep.
How TH Steel supports the requirement
TH Steel, established 1977 and based in Penang, makes stainless steel gates and railings, fencing, grilles and other home metalwork, with the stainless steel fabrication handled in-house from design to finished piece. For a more traditional look, we also produce wrought-iron-style work in mild steel:
- Tube bending for railings, frames and curved sections.
- Metal forming, including wrought-iron-style scrolls and detail in mild steel.
- CNC laser cutting for decorative gate and panel patterns.
- Precision welding with joints finished cleanly on visible work.
- Finishing, with advice on a suitable protective finish where mild steel is used outdoors.
- Project assembly, with gates built to suit an automatic system where needed.
Because design, cutting, forming, welding and finishing are handled together, the metalwork fits properly, looks consistent and is made to last in its setting.
Typical items we fabricate
Common residential and domestic work includes:
- swing and sliding gates, including frames built for automation;
- window and door security grilles;
- railings, balustrades and staircases;
- fencing and pool fencing;
- canopy, awning and porch frames;
- patio and garden furniture;
- planters and garden features;
- custom gates and metalwork to your design.
Materials, grades and finishes
The right material depends on the look, the budget and how much upkeep you want:
- Stainless steel, 304 for sheltered locations and 316 near pools or the coast, resists rust without painting and needs little maintenance in the local climate.
- Mild steel, worked in a wrought-iron style, gives a traditional, decorative look at a lower material cost, but needs a protective finish and occasional repainting to hold off rust outdoors.
Stainless finishes range from a brushed No. 4 to a mirror or bead-blasted surface. Mild steel used outdoors needs a protective finish to resist rust, so tell us your preference and we will advise on the options.
Why an integrated maker gets the fit and finish right
For home metalwork, the fit and the finish are what you see and live with every day. When bending, forming, cutting, welding and finishing all happen under one roof, gates and grilles can be made to measure, joints finished cleanly, and matching pieces around a property made to look the same, with fewer handoffs where quality could slip.
For homeowners and builders, that means one maker from measuring up through to finished, ready-to-install metalwork, and a consistent look across the gates, railings and fencing on a single property.
