Vehicle parts that have to fit, repeat and take punishment

Parts for vehicles work in a hard environment: heat, vibration, road salt and constant use. A bracket that is slightly out, a frame that does not sit square, or a poorly welded exhaust joint causes fit problems, premature failures and rework, and the cost lands well beyond the part itself. Much of this work is custom, prototype, replacement or low-volume rather than mass production, so each part still has to be made accurately, in the right material for the heat and corrosion it will see, and repeated faithfully when more are needed. The buyer here wants fabricated components made precisely to drawings, in a grade chosen for the job, from a partner who treats a one-off with the same care as a batch.

What automotive and vehicle buyers need

Custom and specialist vehicle builders, restorers, motorsport teams, aftermarket and component makers, and trailer and commercial-vehicle builders tend to be solving for the same concerns:
  • parts that fit first time and repeat accurately;
  • the right grade for heat, corrosion, road salt and vibration;
  • clean, sound welds, particularly on exhaust and structural work;
  • prototype and low-to-medium volume support;
  • accurate work from a drawing, a sample or a part to copy;
  • fewer suppliers to coordinate for a build.
The underlying need is dependable components that fit and last, made by someone who understands the conditions they face.
Stainless steel exhaust components.

How TH Steel supports the requirement

TH Steel, established 1977 and based in Penang, provides automotive component fabrication, with the stainless steel fabrication and precision metalwork handled in-house, for custom, prototype and specialist vehicle work rather than mass production:
  • CNC laser cutting for brackets, mounting plates and profiles.
  • Tube bending for exhaust runs, frames and tubular structures.
  • CNC milling and turning for machined components made to drawing.
  • Precision welding using TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW), for exhausts, frames and brackets that face heat and vibration.
  • Forming and finishing for shaped and visible parts.
  • Project assembly to deliver complete sub-assemblies rather than loose parts.
Because cutting, machining, bending, welding and finishing are handled together, a part can be made, fitted and finished accurately, whether it is a single piece or a repeat batch.

Typical components we fabricate

Common automotive and vehicle work includes:
  • brackets, mounts and supports;
  • exhaust components and systems;
  • heat shields and guards;
  • frames, sub-frames and tubular structures;
  • skid plates and underbody parts;
  • trim, finishers and visible detail parts;
  • prototype and one-off components;
  • trailer and commercial-vehicle metalwork.

Materials, grades, finishes and standards

Grade selection follows the job the part has to do:
  • 304 and 316 for parts that face moisture, road salt or heat, with 316 the more corrosion-resistant choice; stainless is a common choice for exhaust and underbody components.
  • 430 and similar grades for trim and decorative parts.
  • Mild steel where a part will be coated or painted, and other grades to your specification.
Heat- and corrosion-exposed parts have particular grade needs, so tell us what the part has to withstand and we will recommend a grade. Components are manufactured to your drawings and specifications; achievable accuracy depends on the process, material and part geometry.

Why an integrated fabricator suits component work

For vehicle components, the value of a single shop is fewer problems at the fit-up and finish stages. When cutting, machining, bending, welding and finishing all happen under one roof, dimensions and weld quality can be controlled across the whole part, with fewer handoffs where a tolerance or a finish could drift between suppliers. For builders and component makers, that means one accountable partner from drawing through to a finished, fitted sub-assembly, and consistency between parts when a batch is needed.

Frequently asked questions - automotive and custom components

Yes. Custom, one-off and specialist vehicle parts made to your drawings, sketches or a sample are core to what we do, from a single bracket to a small batch. If you do not have a drawing, send the part or clear photographs with dimensions and we will advise. Tell us the material and what the part has to withstand, and we will recommend an approach.

Yes. Exhaust runs and components are a natural fit for tube bending and TIG welding, and stainless steel is a common choice for its heat and corrosion resistance. We can fabricate to your design or from a sample, in the grade your application calls for. Tell us the layout, tube sizes and grade, and we will advise.

It depends on the temperature and corrosion the part will see. 304 and 316 are common for exhaust and underbody work, with 316 offering more corrosion resistance for salt-exposed parts, and other grades are used for specific heat or cost requirements. Tell us where the part sits and what it has to withstand, and we will recommend a grade.

Yes. We fabricate prototypes and first articles, refine them with you, and run small to medium batches, which suits custom, aftermarket and specialist vehicle work rather than mass production. Telling us upfront whether a part will repeat lets us plan the most cost-effective approach. Send your drawing and expected quantity and we will advise.

We manufacture to the dimensions and tolerances stated on your drawing; what is achievable in practice depends on the process, the material and the part geometry. Mark the critical dimensions and we will confirm what we can hold before quoting, rather than promising figures blind.

Yes. Custom builds, restorations and motorsport work are well suited to one-off and low-volume fabrication, from brackets and mounts to frames and exhaust work. Share the part, the vehicle and what it has to do, and we will advise on material and approach.

Yes. Brackets, mounts, sub-frames and trailer metalwork are common work, fabricated to your drawings in stainless or coated mild steel to suit the load and the environment. Tell us the loads, the fixings and where the part sits, and we will advise.

In many cases yes. If you can supply the original part, or clear photographs with accurate measurements, we can work from that to fabricate a replacement. The better the sample or measurements, the closer the result. Send what you have and we will tell you what else is needed.

p>We fabricate to the quality and material standards your project specifies. Tell us which standard applies, and we will confirm whether and how we can support it before work begins, rather than assuming. Sharing the requirement early lets us plan the work and any documentation to suit.
